Drawing Hands

Lithograph by Dutch artist, M.C. Escher, February, One of four original lithographs that adorn the walls of Don's Digital Café. It is an example of the paradoxical act of "drawing one's self into extistence".

Known as "creating something from nothing", it's what our artists and writers do every day.

Battlestar Galactica

Edward James Olmos as Commander Bill Adama, of Battlestar Galactica. The overall look and feel of our site was inspired by the Syfy channel series, Battlestar Galactica, a reimagining of the original 1978 TV series.

When viewing Battlestar (and the spin-off series, Caprica), if you look closely, you will notice that all publications (including photos) are printed on paper with the corners cut off at 45 degree angles.

This was most likely done as a way to make an advanced, future and alien civiliazation look different than the ours. We want our websites to look different than others, so a lot of the graphic elements and photos have the corners cut off.

2010: A Business Odyssey

Keir Dullea ("Dave", from the Motion Pictures, "2001: A Space Odyssey", and "2010: Odyssey Two").Don Cook was fortunate enough to have a Physics teacher in High School who played the movie, "2001: A Space Odyssey", starring Keir Dullea, for his class. This was a life changing experience.

Another life changing experience for Don was the launching of Don's Digital Café in the year 2010.

Keir Dullea also starred in the movie sequel, "2010: Odyssey Two". Both movies were based on novels writen by Arthur C. Clarke, Don's favorite author.

Twit Cottage

The inspiration for Don's Digital Café came from Leo Laporte and his innovative TWiT Cottage.

Leo (also know as the "Tech Guy") hosts and produces some of the most popular podcasts and netcasts in the world.

Don's Digital Café will be similar to the TWiT Cottage, only with a more hi-tech look (lots of glass, chrome, brushed aluminum, and . . . no wood).

Also, instead of computers (Leo uses Mac minis) hooked up to four different monitors, we use computers (Macs and PeeCees) connected to one large HD monitor using a Quad Splitter.

Like Leo, we will have a presence on YouTube, iTunes, and a ROKU Channel called, "Don's Digital Café".

Graham Kerr

Some of the inpiration for Don Cook's Mini-Max Fusion Vegan Cuisine came from Graham Kerr, also known as the "Galloping Gourmet".

The origin of his "Galloping Gourmet" persona stemmed from a 1967 book that he co-authored with wine expert Len Evans, The Galloping Gourmets. They got their nickname from a 35-day worldwide trek to the finest restaurants around the globe.

During "The Galloping Gourmet's" successful run, Graham became a worldwide sensation, wrote an abundance of cookbooks, and earned two Emmy Award nominations. The series was known for its lighthearted humour, tomfoolery and the copious use of clarified butter, cream and fat.

After his wife Treena's stroke, then heart attack in 1986, Kerr was prompted to create a new style of cooking that he dubbed "Minimax". This new method of food preparation minimized ("Mini") fat and cholesterol, while it maximized ("max") aroma, colour, texture and taste. Just what we do at Bistro 150.

"Minimax" led to the successful Graham Kerr show, originally produced at KING-TV in Seattle in 1990 and 1991, it was later syndicated to local stations and to the Discovery Channel. Minimax also led to three successful cookbooks: "Graham Kerr's Smart Cooking", "Graham Kerr's Minimax Cookbook", and "Graham Kerr's Creative Choices".

In 1995, Graham Kerr appeared in a PBS special with Julia Child called Cooking in Concert: Julia Child & Graham Kerr.

In 2005, he received an Honorary Doctorate in Culinary Nutrition, the first to receive that award in any category. In 2008 he began working on his latest book, “Growing at the Speed of Life” in which he journals his daily encounter with his first ever kitchen garden and beheld a whole new reason for his fabled enthusiasm for creativity and change.

A life balancing career awaits you.

::: Join our "PJ Team" and put your life in balance, as well as gaining a career.
++ Work At Home: San Diego, CA, USA / Don Cook / Don's Digital Café

A person's worth is often measured by their career success. It is not until an individual matures and takes possession of their life that the realisation of life balance occurs. Life balance entails separating career activities, achievements and tasks from the rest of a persons life. For example, leaving the job at work and having a home life.

One (of many) great things about a career with us is that you can work in your pajamas (if you want to). Although this is not a requirement, it's nice to know that you can join our "PJ Team", and no one will know. (We won't tell.)

At Don's Digital Café, you can have a career that is necessary to meet the needs of life and have a life as well.  In fact they encourage and support it. As an Independent Contractor, you don't work for them.  It would be more accurate to say that they work for you (by providing encouragement, support and access to tremendous resources).

They believe in freedom of choice.  You get to decide when you work, how often you work, and how long you work.  Because you are working out of your home, you can even work in your pajamas if you want to (although that is not a requirement). Your income will be based solely on what you produce (not on how long you took).  The more you produce, the higher your income.  In fact a six-figure income is entirely possible for well qualified individuals.

Note from Raster Master: Should your life, or family circumstance require that you take time off, we will only support you in your decision to do so (we believe that family comes first). As far as "jobs" go, it doesn't get much better than this.

Freedom writers.

:: If you love to write, at Don's Digital Café you can create financial freedom doing what you love.
++ Writing As A Career: San Diego, CA, USA / Don Cook / Don's Digital Café

The popularity of the Internet opened the door of opportunity to many established and aspiring writers alike. When writing for the Web, it is the content that matters. Writing for the Web is very different from writing for print. Web visitors are quickly scrolling through sites seeking specific information and will not always take the time to read every word. Traditional writing techniques and standards are less of a priority, as multiple headings, bullets and lists are needed to aid scanning readers.

Writers earn money and find enjoyment in doing something they love. Writers for Don's Digital Café can do this and more. Our goal for all of our "Freedom Writers" is to help them acheive financial freedom (if they so desire).

Writers not writing for a living often find enjoyment and small payouts from Web sites seeking material to raise their sites higher in the search engine rankings. Although this is a legitimate practice, the writing being published on the Web can often be less than professional. This lack of professionalism distorts the line between qualified and amateur writers. Writing standards are often not the highest priority as Web sites seek to drive traffic to gain advertising exposure.

Also, it seems as if readers are not as concerned about the writing quality, as long as they find a relevant account on a particular topic.

Writers’ advocates believe the Internet has led to a lower level of writing standards.  While new modes of communication through the Internet are constantly advancing and changing, the issue of writing quality questions the very definition of writing in the Internet age.

At Don's Digital Café, writing standards are their highest priority, so is professionalism. Yes, they seek material that will raise their sites higher in the search engine rankings, and yes, they want their articles to be relevent.  Their goal, however is to have articles so well written that readers will consistantly come back for more, and that their readers will have a difficult time finding anything better elsewhere.

To be a writer for Don's Digital Café is easy.  Simply send us an Email request.  You will then be provided with a list of projects.  You get to decide what project you want to work on. Afterwards, you will be provided with a list of topics for that particular projcet. You get to decide which topic you want to write about.

You do the research and write an article about your chosen topic. You then submit your article for evaluation. If accepted, you will be asked for your BIO and references.  If eveything checks out, you will be rewarded with an Independent Contractors Agreement which will allow you to earn approximately 4 times the industry average from your writing.

Note from Raster Master: If your writing skills are proven to be exceptional, you will be invited to partner with us on your chosen project.  A partnership will allow you to not only make a six-figure income, but also reach financial freedom.  You will then truly become a "Freedom Writer". BTW, one of my favorite movies of all time is Freedom Writers, starring Hillary Swank (the Million Dollar Baby). If you watch it, you'll be glad you did.

Become a "slave" (intern).

:: The very best path to becoming a professional photographer.
++ Photographic Assistant: San Diego, CA, USA / Don Cook / Don's Digital Café

Become a slave. What? Are you crazy? I just spent thousands of dollars and four years getting a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Professional Photographic Illustration, and you want me to work for free?

If you're smart you will. Here's why. At this point in your career, you don't know anything. And not only that, you don't know that you don't know anything! This is the most important step in the process. Become a slave. Also know as an "intern" (or apprentice). You won't have to pay to get your Masters degree, yet you will receive free training that is every bit as valuable as a Masters Degree (maybe more).

The thing you have to be careful about, however, is in choosing your Master. Here's why: You graduate from art school, get back from wherever, and now it's time to get a job. You run out and knock on every photo studio door you can. If the photographer isn't too busy, he'll be kind enough to look at your portfolio (he doesn't really care what your book looks like) , he'll say "pretty nice stuff" and send you along your way.

The chances of you getting a job as an assistant photographer are very, very, very, slim. I'm not saying that it's impossible, but almost. Most photographers in today's market (including me) hire "Freelance Assistants". They are hired on a per day basis. The reason we do this is so that when we aren't working, we don't have to pay them. The number of full time assistants in the San Diego market can be counted on one hand. Sure, we would all love to have someone around all the time, even when we're slow (for marketing and maintenance purposes), but we just can't afford it. That's where you come in.

The really great thing about "slavery" is that you get a great education but you don't have to pay anyone for it! I suggest that you become a slave for two years (about the same time as a graduate degree would take). Those two years of slavery will be the most valuable years of education in your career. If you must, cut two years off of your school, but don't give up your slavery! This is basically a free "Masters Degree" in Photography!

Note from Raster Master: For your free "Masters Degree" in Photography, please emali us. If you want to know how to be the perfect assistant, please click here. This is not an unpaid internship.  It is more accurate to say that it is a partially paid internship as our interns recieve a "stipend" that represents a percentage of the income received from the projects that we work together on. They also receive free room and board in a luxury gated community, including their own garage with remote control opener. It doesn't stop there: How about free Wi-Fi, a custom built PeeCee with a 24" LCD monitor, free Internet (VOIP) phone, private full bathroom, and over 300 channels of video (some in HD). Traditional "slavery" cannot compare to ours. We take extreme care of our "slaves" (they are people too).
